Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at the judicial center on the end of the week

An individual who contaminated sweets with sedative and provided them to children at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both nine and 10.

The accused was arrested after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he ran.

The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had worries about the situation, with valid cause.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.

She explained the defendant proceeded to play the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
