In the final seconds, unbridled joy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and handed the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane represented the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Glaring Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench was the most decorated manager of his time, a man with 40 trophies for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a former coach at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and arrived to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a host of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task started out as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
